The whole family is in awe and pleasantly surprised to see how fast the Kenaf plants have grown. The Kids and I have been watching and monitoring the Kenaf Test Plants since they sprouted in January. The Kids grow almost as fast as the Kenaf 8234 plants.
Great Help with the Kenaf Plants from the Little Green Thumbs!
It is a no-brainer to see why Kenaf is a sustainable Biomass Energy Champion.
Kenaf 8234 Sprouts- Jan 2016
In the 5 months we have been tending the Plants. We have watched the Kenaf Plants grow from little sprouts to 6 feet tall plants with a stalk diameter of 1 inch!
Scotty has been leaving a breadcrumb trail on this blog and its sister blog on the future aspects that will become an important aspect on not only the Inventions: BioRad Hazardous Waste Removal and Hemp Farming Machinery; but also future business avenues that will be capitalized and turned into income producing avenues for the company and its shareholders.
Here is why today was a big deal as it relates to MissouriAgribusiness and Robotics (Breadcrumb 1, Breadcrumb 2) In a prior social media post I highlighted how Tree Planting robots are being used to plant trees. It is not too much of a stretch of imagination, to see how similar Kenaf Seedlings are very similar to actual Trees check out today's Kenaf Test Plant Animated Images and see how fast these Kenaf Test Plants have come from the early days.
In a few days the transplant experiment will prove how hardy the Kenaf Plants are. I'll be honest they have not had a luxurious life since they first sprouted in January 2016. I have purposely let them grow in the little plant trays to demonstrate not only the hardiness of the Kenaf plant; but, also the how easily and carefree they grow. This semi mimics how adaptable they will be to actual field growing conditions relative to Missouri's Climate.
This eliminates humans coming in contact with Nuclear Rads. I really like this idea, as a business owner who will have to cover the health hazards of the crew while working on hazmat soils.

Notes:
Cardboard cylinder is a toilet paper roll center that is used to hold the plants upright. The plants are not exactly growing in optimum conditions in the widow sill. The stems of the plants do not get the wind that is needed to strengthen the plant stem and the weight of the leaves bends the stems over.
A quarter was used for size reference early in the plants growth.
The Red Colored lights are not from a Red Grow Light, this was caused by a camera setting in a few photos.
I planted 6 seeds- 5 sprouted. I killed 1 attempting to help it rid the seed pod. I ripped the tender leaves and that plant never recovered and died. (Don't love your plants to death- Paul Allen)
The majority of the photos are taken in the AM when I am getting a cup of coffee to start the day.
This is also when I turn the supplemental lighting on.
Supplemental lighting is generally left on a minimum of 12 hours a day, 7 am to 7 pm.
The Grand-kids are marveling at how fast the Kenaf Plants grow (and so am I). I told the middle child that they will eventually grow taller than us. They could grow up-to 15 feet tall, which is 4 times as tall as you right now. (Note to self: she doesn't know how tall 15 feet is. I have to do a better job of comparison)
She also asked, "if we are going to eat these plants?" I replied, "I don't know I guess we could, I've heard of other people eating Kenaf plants. And read that Kenaf Growers feed the plants to their farm animals."
Occasionally, as the Temperature warms the plant tray is taken outside and placed on the Patio so the plants get Natural Sunlight. I hope to also strengthen the stems by doing this with the natural breeze.
I am planning on re-potting the plant starts into bigger pots soon.
Thank You for stopping by-Share and Comment below. If additional information in needed or you have a question let me know. Together we can make a difference and create a future that will benefit everyone.
Even though this is a window located on the South Side of the House and other plants have flourished in this location. I didn't feel the plants were getting enough lighting and added a Florescent Grow Light to the area for an additional boost.
