Battery Tests: Hemp vs Lithium

It's no surprise to MOhemp Energy-  Hemp Battery performed better than Litium (31 to 4) in this battery test by Robert Murray-Smith.

An experiment was conducted to perform a comparison check on the performance of hemp batteries and lithium batteries. The hemp battery and the lithium battery was connected in the circuit at separate times and three curves were monitored – one the Amps curve, the second being the Volts curve and the third one being the Volts by Amps curve with the sampling record set to be once every second for a total of ½ hour. The test was conducted by stressing both – the hemp as well as the lithium cells in the same equipment to the same degrees.

The Observation
When the Volts by Amps curve was observed for both the cells it was found that the power underneath the hemp cell was a value of 31 while that of the lithium cell had a value of just 4.

The Times News recently published an article High hopes for hemp about the resurgence of American Made fabrics plus The critical step of needed fiber cleaning and conditioning.

And one of the more environmentally friendly ways involves using enzymes. The enzymes relax the gum-glue itself and actually wash it away. It doesn’t get it all. It’s not the final answer, but it brings you 80 percent of the way to it. That’s what we’re doing here today. We’re running trials on different ways to get to that 80 percent.

Hemp-Based Batteries Could Change the Way We Store Energy Forever

Scotty, MOhemp Energy has not figured out how to make a battery (yet) but he has figured out how to remove the raw material from the Hemp plant that is mentioned in this article below and is currently seeking pilot study collaborators who are interested in bringing this technology to market.

Hemp is the most universally useful plant we have at our disposal. The history of mankind’s use of hemp can be traced way back in time to between about 5000 – 7000 BC.


Industrial hemp and hemp seed could transform the economy of the world States in a positive and beneficial way, and therefore should be exploited to its full potential, especially relating to energy storage.


David Mitlin, Ph.D., explains that supercapacitors are energy storage devices that have huge potential to transform the way future electronics are powered. Unlike today’s rechargeable batteries, which sip up energy over several hours, supercapacitors can charge and discharge within seconds. But they normally can’t store nearly as much energy as batteries, an important property known as energy density. One approach researchers are taking to boost supercapacitors’ energy density is to design better electrodes. Mitlin’s team has figured out how to make them from certain hemp fibers — and they can hold as much energy as the current top contender: graphene.

Mitlin says

"Our device’s electrochemical performance is on par with or better than graphene-based devices. The key advantage is that our electrodes are made from biowaste using a simple process, and therefore, are much cheaper than graphene.”

SCS/SB 547 - This act modifies provisions relating to industrial hemp.


 Missouri Senate Bill Legislation SB 547 Modifies provisions relating to industrial hemp

Currently, marijuana and marihuana are considered Schedule I drugs for purposes of the Comprehensive Drug Control Act. This act defines industrial hemp, and exempts industrial hemp from the Comprehensive Drug Control Act.


This act creates an industrial hemp agricultural pilot program to be implemented by the Department of Agriculture to study the growth, cultivation, processing, feeding, and marketing of industrial hemp. Under this act, growers and handlers of industrial hemp are required to obtain a registration, and growers and handlers of agricultural hemp seed are required to obtain a permit, from the Department of Agriculture. An application for an industrial hemp registration or agricultural hemp seed production permit shall be accompanied by an application fee and shall include certain information as set forth in this act.

Upon fulfilling the application requirements, upon completing a satisfactory fingerprint criminal history background check, signing an acknowledgment that industrial hemp is an experimental crop, and signing a waiver holding the Missouri Department of Agriculture harmless, the Department shall issue a registration or permit. All information relating to registration and permit holders shall be forwarded to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Any registration or permit is nontransferable except to certain family members, is valid for 3 years, and is renewable.


Under this act, the Department may revoke, refuse to issue, or refuse to renew an industrial hemp registration or agricultural hemp seed production permit, and may impose a civil penalty of not less than $2,500 and not more than $50,000 for violating registration or permit requirements, Department rules, industrial hemp plant monitoring system requirements, or certain Department of Agriculture orders. A registration or permit shall not be issued to any person that has been found guilty of any felony offense under any state or federal law regarding a controlled substance within the previous 5 years.


Under this act, any person growing industrial hemp who does not have a valid registration shall be subject to an administrative fine of $500 and shall have 30 days to obtain such registration. If such person receives such registration within 30 days, he or she shall have their fine refunded in full. However, if such person fails to obtain such registration within 30 days, he or she shall be fined $1000 per day until such registration is obtained, or their crop may be destroyed by the Department of Agriculture after 30 additional days.


Under this act, any grower may retain seed from each industrial hemp crop to ensure a sufficient supply of seed for that grower for the following year without the requirement to obtain a hemp seed production permit. Such seed shall not be sold or transferred, and does not have to meet hemp seed standards established by the Department of Agriculture.


Each grower and handler shall be subject to an industrial hemp plant monitoring system and shall keep certain records as required by the Department of Agriculture. Upon 3 days notice, the Department may require an inspection or audit for purposes of ensuring compliance with industrial hemp laws, regulations, permit requirements, monitoring system requirements, and Department orders. Additionally, this act allows the Department to inspect any industrial hemp crop during the crop's growth phase. If such crop contains an average THC concentration exceeding 0.3%, or the maximum amount allowed under federal law, the Department may detain or seize the crop.


This act requires the Department of Agriculture to develop standard identification documentation for industrial hemp and associated commodities. The Department may assess growers and handlers registered under this act a fee for developing such system. All fees assessed to growers and handlers shall be deposited in the Industrial Hemp Fund created under this act, which shall be used by the Department of Agriculture for administration purposes.


Further, this act allows an institution of higher education, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, to engage in the study of the growth, cultivation, or marketing of industrial hemp and seed. This act also allows the Missouri Crop Improvement Association, in collaboration with the Department, to establish and administer a certification program for agricultural hemp seed. Under the program, the Department may breed, plant, grow, cultivate, and harvest cannabis, and collect seeds from wild cannabis plants. Such program shall be voluntary for growers of industrial hemp.

Currently, a food is considered adulterated if it meets certain criteria. Under this act, a food shall not be considered adulterated if it contains industrial hemp, or an industrial hemp commodity or product.

We are holding a kick-off event known as "International Hemp Environmental Forum 2016" which is being organized to focus and bring to fruition a solution to the environmental issues facing our beautiful planet, Japan as the starting point.

Hemp: A Source Biomass Antibacterial Fibers

Cannabis sativa: The Plant of the Thousand and One Molecules

Plant lignocellulosic biomass is an abundant renewable resource, which can provide biopolymers, fibers, chemicals and energy (Guerriero et al., 201420152016). 


Trees are important for the provision of wood, however, also fast-growing herbaceous species, like textile hemp (which has a THC content <0.3%; Weiblen et al., 2015), can provide high biomass quantities in a short time. The stem of this fiber crop supplies both cellulosic and woody fibers: the core is indeed lignified, while the cortex harbors long cellulose-rich fibers, known as bast fibers (Figure 1) (Guerriero et al., 2013).

This heterogeneous cell wall composition makes hemp stem an interesting model to study secondary cell wall biosynthesis, in particular the molecular events underlying the deposition of cortical gelatinous bast fibers and core woody fibers.
Cannabis woody fibers (a.k.a “hurds” or “shivs”) are used for animal bedding because of their high absorption capacity and for the creation of a concrete-like material.
Hemp bast fibers are used in the biocomposite sector as a substitute of glass fibers. The automotive industry is particularly keen on using hemp bast fibers to produce bioplastics: this material is stronger than polypropylene plastic and lighter in weight (Marsh, 2003).
Beyond the applications in the construction and automotive industries, hemp fibers are attractive also in the light of their natural antibacterial property. Hemp bast fibers have been indeed described as antibacterial (Hao et al., 2014Khan et al., 2015) and their use for the manufacture of an antibacterial finishing agent (Bao et al., 2014), surgical devices (Gu, 2006) or functionalized textiles (Cassano et al., 2013) has been reported. This property is linked to the chemical composition of hemp bast fibers: both free and esterified sterols and triterpenes have been identified, among which β-sitosterol and β-amyrin (Gutiérrez and del Río, 2005). These compounds possess known antibacterial properties (Kiprono et al., 2000Ibrahim, 2012). Hemp bast fibers were also found to contain cannabinoids (2% of the total metabolite extract) (Bouloc et al., 2013 and references therein). More recently hemp hurd powder showed antibacterial properties against Escherichia coli (Khan et al., 2015). Since the hurd has a higher lignin content than the bast fibers, its antibacterial property may be linked to lignin-related compounds such phenolic compounds, as well as alkaloids and cannabinoids (Appendino et al., 2008Khan et al., 2015).
